Our region is a four-season destination for outdoor recreation and fun! In the winter, you can ski and snowboard at nearby Bromley and Stratton, or a bit further away, Killington and Okemo.
Off the mountain and into the wood, Hildene, Merck Forest, Wild Wings, and Viking Nordic Center offer groomed, beautiful trails for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. With little kids? Go ice skating at Riley Rink or take a horse drawn sleigh ride at Taylor Farm. Warm weather brings Bromley’s Summer Adventure Center with its zipline, Alpine Slide, mini golf, and waterslide! If you’re a hiker, ask us for our favorite trails and day hikes. There’s something for everyone and always a pretty view. If you’re a golfer, tee times are available at Manchester Country Club, Stratton Country Club, and Gleneagles at Equinox. We can help!
For local culture, head to Southern Vermont Art Center to see classic and contemporary art, visit the Museum of the Creative Process, and check out Manchester Music Festival and Taconic Music, both bringing world-class performers to town for festivals and intimate concerts events. On summer Tuesdays, catch local bands on our downtown green; totally fun, free, and family-friendly! History buffs, watch for Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home, the American Museum of Fly Fishing, and the Bennington Museum. For a personal introduction to southern Vermont, you can sign up for an afternoon with the expert Backroad Discovery Tours.
And when you need to refuel, Manchester offers a generous selection of places to eat, drink, and browse. Restaurants cater to every meal, and taste, while shopping opportunities include over forty designer outlets, the Orvis Company store, and tons of independent galleries and boutiques. Don’t miss the Northshire Bookstore, a local (and regional) treasure!
For your calendar, noteworthy and upcoming events: Arts & Craft Festival, the Vermont Summer Festival Horse Show, Manchester Food & Wine Classic, and the Weston Antiques Show.
